What Is CLT and Why Do We Use It?

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is a wood-made product that is prefabricated using several layers of lumber. It’s laid out and glued together in an alternating pattern, typically in panels of three, five, seven, or nine.

CLT is known to be a high strength-to-weight ratio and has shown great results for structural, fire, thermal, and acoustic performances.

Why do we choose to use CLT in our homes?

CLT has been proven time and time again to be a reliable source for homebuilders, but here are a few key benefits that led us to use CLT in our homes:

Time efficient:

Our goal at Hewing Haus is to utilize our prefabricated process to build homes in a much faster timeline than traditional construction. CLT can be fully manufactured off-site which reduces construction costs. As well, CLT is easy to install which limits waste on the job site and allows us to get homes built faster and more efficiently.

Eco–Friendly:

we strive to be a company that focuses on being eco-conscious. CLT is a sustainable material made of renewable wood. Leftover wood can be utilized or recycled, unlike other building materials due to its wood nature.

Design Flexibility:

CLT can be used in walls, floors, or ceilings. The ability to add or take away layers and lengths allows for it to be versatile and used where needed. Because CLT is built in layers, it has been proven to be durable and reduces the risk of swelling, shrinking, and warping of the wood. This durability gives us the freedom to use CLT where needed without the fear of problems arising.

Aesthetically Pleasing:

At Hewing Haus, we are dedicated to crafting beautiful homes. While we prioritize reliability, we also pride ourselves in creating a luxurious living space. With the use of CLT, our homes can be constructed securely, while also showcasing the inherent beauty of this natural product that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment.
