There’s something pretty special about building a home in a place where getting to the destination involves barges, three trucks, and a whole lot of Pacific Northwest scenery.
Our latest install took us to one of the San Juan Islands in Washington, where we delivered a 900-square-foot Hewing Haus to a beautiful property overlooking the ocean. It was one of those locations where, as soon as we arrived, we knew the Haus was going to feel right at home there.
And getting it there was part of the adventure. Boy, was it an adventure!
The house travelled in three sections on three different trucks. They were craned onto the trucks in Chilliwack, BC, then made their way from Canada, across the border, across the water by barges, up some skinny island roads, and finally up a steep driveway to the site.
There was a lot of planning, coordination, and careful maneuvering involved to say the least. But once we arrived, things moved surprisingly quickly.
The Value of a Great Local Contractor
A huge part of what made this project so smooth was the homeowners’ local contractor. They did a fantastic job getting the site ready before our team arrived, so when we showed up, everything was in place and ready to go.
That meant our installation crew could get straight to work—and we had the entire home installed in just 30 hours.
It really felt like a team effort, and it’s a great example of how much of a difference having the right people on the ground can make. When the site is ready and everyone is working together, our team can swoop in, do what we do best, and get a home installed in a remarkably short amount of time.
And then there was the view.
The home was designed with four floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, bringing that incredible Pacific Northwest landscape right into the living space. Surrounded by trees, water, and that unmistakable island scenery, it was a pretty incredible backdrop for an install.
Honestly, not a bad place to spend a couple of days working!
From Texas to Canada
This was our second Hewing Haus installed in the USA this year alone, and we’re pretty excited about where things are headed.
Over the years, our homes have found their way to some pretty amazing places, from Texas all the way up to central British Columbia. Each site is different, and that’s one of the things we enjoy most about what we do. No two installs are quite the same, and there’s always a new location, new logistics, and a new team of people to work with.
And we’re just getting started.
We have five more U.S. installs and nine more Canadian installs on the horizon, which means 14 more locations, 14 more adventures, and plenty more stories to share. We can’t wait to see where the next ones take us.
For now, we’ll be thinking about this one—the journey, the barge, the skinny roads, the incredible local contractor and team, and, of course, that ocean view.
Oh, that view!
Not a bad place for a Hewing Haus.
